Peer Tutor Application

*We are now accepting Peer Tutor applications for the 2019-2020 academic year* 

All majors are encouraged to apply!

Peer Tutors provide walk-in or individual tutoring sessions for undergraduate UMW students. Peer tutors serve as a supplemental resource to faculty and the content taught in the classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Tutor students in specific course material and integrate study and learning strategies to promote independent learning
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records of each tutoring session via EAB
  • Mandatory attendance for the following professional development opportunities:
    • Peer Consultant Conference:  Sunday, September 8, 2019
    • Monthly all-staff trainings (TBD)
    • Bi-weekly New Tutor Trainings in fall semester (TBD)
  • Refer students to additional campus resources, if needed
  • Assist Tutor Coordinator with other projects as requested

Salary: $8.00/hour

Schedule: A couple hours per week (typically afternoons, evenings, or weekends)

Qualifications

  • Have successfully completed at least one semester at UMW
  • Have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA; minimum 3.0 GPA in the subject you wish to tutor
  • Be a current degree-seeking UMW student
  • Previously received at least a B in the course you wish to tutor
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Sincere desire to help and have a high degree of patience
  • Be willing to work with diverse group of tutees
