Peer Academic Consultant Application

 *We are now accepting Peer Academic Consultant applications for the 2019-2020 academic year* 

Peer Academic Consultants (PACs) are student leaders, within Academic Services, who are passionate about helping peers develop the academic skills necessary to become successful students. PACs offer study skills support to undergraduate students through one-on-one meetings. Additionally, PACs create and facilitate workshops on various academic related topics. Students will work with a PAC to develop not only effective study habits but also strong time management and organizational skills to help achieve academic and personal success. 


  • Provide one-on-one student consultations to assist with developing, refining, and maintaining students’ academic study skills (note-taking, time management, effective study techniques, etc)
  • Create & deliver presentations on academic skills and strategies to various campus outlets (student organizations, residence halls, summer orientation)
  • Collaborate with campus partners to develop referral based appointments that best serve their students
  • Keep accurate and updated records of all student appointments via EAB
  • Represent Academic Services at on-campus events
  • Help inform and educate students on our programs and services using different marketing outlets
  • Attendance at bi-weekly all staff meetings and Peer Consultant Conference, Sunday, September 8, 2019

Salary: $8.00/hour

Schedule: 6-10 hours during the weekdays

Required Skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills, well-organized, creative, problem solving, takes initiative
  • Be able to demonstrate excellent academic study habits, such as time management, prioritizing, effective study strategies, note taking, goal setting, test-taking, motivation, managing test anxiety, and using campus resources
  • Ability to work both individually and as part of a team
  • Willingness and ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and differing support needs

Additional Requirements

  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Minimum completion of at least one semester at UMW
  • Students in all majors are welcome to apply
  • Rising sophomores and juniors are encouraged to apply
